Field Notes from Jess ~ Sunday 9/52 weekend in review: Field to Table
The coolest experience after ice fishing for 3 days is processing all that Perch and Rainbow Trout for a lively dinner with friends and family. #fishtacos There have been some big highlights in my year of rewilding, but to filet my own catch and have enough to package up and put in the freezer was a very rewarding moment. I got my first chest freezer back in December with the goal to fill it with my own efforts through hunting and fishing in 2021 ~ reducing my dependency on the grocery store and the disconnect of buying packaged meat from an unknown source. There is something special about doing the work, putting in the time and thanking an animal directly for their life. I have great reverence for this personal exchange. The food has a different quality and the nourishment is felt and appreciated. Self-reliance is the new Self-care. Here’s to 5 bags of delicious fish in the freezer...Good Times!
